About these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Matt Williams Developments, ABN 56 564 769 871 ("we", "us", "our"), the operator of the BookLove app and website ("BookLove").
By creating an account or using BookLove, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use BookLove.
Who can use BookLove
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By creating one, you confirm that you are 16 or older and that the details you give us are accurate.
Your account
- Keep your password secure and don't share your account.
- You're responsible for activity on your account. Tell us straight away at support@booklove.com.au if you think someone else has accessed it.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (see our account deletion page).
Book clubs
- Anyone with an account can create a club and becomes its owner. Owners and the admins they appoint can invite and remove members, run nomination rounds, change club settings and view club insights.
- Invite codes are meant for people you want in your club. Anyone with a valid code can join, so share codes carefully and regenerate them if needed.
- If you import club history, you confirm you have the right to use that information, including the names and scores of past members, and that doing so doesn't breach anyone's privacy.
- Club owners are responsible for how they run their club, but everyone in a club must follow these Terms.
Your content
"Your content" means anything you add to BookLove, such as club names, nominations, reasons, ratings, notes and photos.
- You own your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display and process it only as needed to run BookLove, for example showing a shared note to your club. This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for ratings kept in de-identified form in club history as described in our Privacy Policy.
- You're responsible for your content and must have the right to post it.
- Please don't copy large parts of books into notes. Short quotes for discussion are fine.
Community standards
BookLove is meant to be a friendly place to talk about books. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. You must not use BookLove to post or share anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone
- is hateful or discriminatory towards people based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or similar attributes
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises minors in any way
- promotes violence, self-harm or illegal activity
- shares someone else's private information without their permission
- is spam, a scam, or impersonates someone
- infringes someone else's copyright or other rights
You also must not try to access clubs you haven't been invited to, guess invite codes, interfere with how BookLove works, or use it to collect other people's information.
Reporting, blocking and moderation
- You can report any shared note, nomination, club or member from inside the app, or by emailing support@booklove.com.au.
- You can block another member. Their shared content will be hidden from you, and they won't be able to interact with you.
- We review reports within 24 hours. If content breaks these Terms, we'll remove it, and we may suspend or permanently remove the account that posted it.
- Club owners and admins can also remove members from their club.
Book information and recommendations
Book titles, covers and descriptions come from third-party services such as Google Books and Open Library. Covers and descriptions belong to their respective publishers and rights holders, and we can't guarantee they're accurate or complete.
Book recommendations are suggestions only. Please check a book's content and themes to make sure it suits your club.
AI features
If we offer AI-assisted features, such as book suggestions, we'll clearly label them and ask for your permission before any club information is sent to an AI provider. AI suggestions can be wrong or incomplete, so treat them as a starting point.
Using the service
- BookLove is currently free. If we introduce paid features, we'll tell you first, and nothing you already use will be charged without your agreement.
- We're always improving BookLove, so features may change, and we may add or remove them.
- We aim to keep BookLove available, but there may be interruptions for maintenance or reasons outside our control.
Ending your use of BookLove
You can stop using BookLove and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if we're required to by law, or if we stop offering BookLove. Where it's reasonable, we'll give you notice first and a chance to download your notes.
Australian Consumer Law
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded.
Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows:
- BookLove is provided "as is", and we don't make promises beyond those in these Terms and those required by law
- we're not responsible for content posted by other members, or for third-party book information
- we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as loss of data or opportunity
- where our liability for a failure to meet a consumer guarantee can be limited, it is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again

Changes to these terms
